At 1600 GMT today, my phone said it had a software update - but despite being able to check for an update on the phone, it doesn't appear able to do OTA updating. Now I'm home, the battery is dead and so I have to wait for it to charge - and find a PC to install the software update software on. I'm wondering if I'll then lose all my data in the process? Anyway, has anyone else been told there's an update and doesn't anyone know what it is? I'd like to think it's 2. Jikkyou Powerful Pro Yakyuu 12 Ketteiban Isometric Exercises. 1 but I am 99% sure it isn't, but I'd be almost as happy to know that it offers what they did on the X10 - improved standby time first and foremost. And also to fix the touchscreen problem where it can stop responding completely until you go back into standby, wait and unlock.
Or it might just update some of the apps on the ROM, given you can't update them via Market at all. Dvdfab Blu-ray Copy For Mac Crack. When it booted up, it took ages to start - shows Sony Ericsson text, plays animation and then 'froze' on SE logo and text. Was sure it had crashed and was about to pull the battery and then it finished - a good 4 or 5 minutes. I really don't know what it was doing, but hope it was optimising something along the way. Now, whenever you do a firmware update (just like servicing a car), you always convince yourself it's faster and smoother - and that's what I think now.
It seems to work quicker (I use ADW Launcher) and suffer less lagging - not that it was that slow before - and so there may be some improvements there. I can't see any other changes though.
And the battery (using Juice Defender and Juice Plotter) may not have improved. I don't use Timescape anyway (so can't tell if that has been improved) but Juice Plotter is now saying I've got 4hrs left - albeit with only 25% accuracy. It was fully charged last night and not used except for a 45 minute train journey to work. There must be a changelog somewhere??
SE made a big thing of the X10 update to highlight improvements, but there's no reference to this anywhere - besides a few people on Esato saying they've got it. I guess we must keep waiting until 2.1 for any major improvements. No better/worse than the native homescreen - except that every now and then I can wake up in the morning with a phone that went from full charge to being 10-15%. Juice Defender has switched off data/Wi-Fi, and I have good coverage, suggesting a problem that can only be attributed to a handful of things - and ADW Launcher might or might not be one of them.
It's rare, but a disaster if you've had your phone on a desk and when you pick it up to go somewhere discover the battery has died. It will take a few days/weeks to see if this problem has gone away as part of the update. Without a changelog, it's impossible to tell what's been fixed! What I can say though, after using it today, is that it seems to respond quicker.
Not - YET - had the touchscreen stop responding. If they've fixed that, then you can't update soon enough! For anyone who hasn't yet done an update; you'll need a Windows PC to run the software via - you will then have the option to install without losing data or format and install (if you fancy starting with a vanilla handset). I still did a full backup with its own app, but the update was quick and painless.
Click to expand.I bought it new, SIM-free, in the UK, from play.com. No branding of any kind, anywhere - just SE graphics.
I'm not too worried at the moment, as it's only a vague firmware update, but I'm going to get really jealous if loads of people get 2.1 before me! Edit: I'm still on version 1.1.A.0.8. Tried updating over 3G, wifi, Update Service, and PC Companion. I even did a repair, to see if it downloaded a new version that way. I notice I have a backup app, but I'm not sure if that was there before the repair or not. I suspect the update service is checking my phone network, despite being an unbranded phone. It isn't 2.1, no, but the increase in battery performance has been quite staggering.
