Hello, I have installed a copy of Windows 7 Home Premium on a Dell Dimension 2400 whilst foolishly neglecting to check for compatibility issues. It seems that Dell did not release a compatible driver for the chipset, video, or audio variants of this machine.

I managed to get the video installed from using XP compatibility settings but so far I am unable to do the same with the sound. I have found quite a few threads where people have found a successful fix for this particular sound card (Analog Devices ADI 198x) but for a different machine; an OptiPlex something or rather. What I'm trying to discover here is whether or not the problem I'm having is related to my choice to skip the chipset installation or just an misinterpretation of the steps these people have taken to resolve their sound issues. Is there anyway for me to solve this problem? If I need to install the chipset, can someone help me discover how; and, if I do not need to install the chipset, can they, instead, help me to get this sound driver installed?
